Up for auction is this 1957-style Porsche 356 Speedster Super Widebody replica by Vintage Speedsters.Based on the platform of a 1967 Volkswagen, this replica was handbuilt by Vintage Speedsters in a beautiful Midnight Blue finish with a Beechwood interior, rare Super Widebody fenders, and a 1915cc Type 1 VW engine paired with a 4-speed manual Freeway Flyer transmission.Completed as a custom order for a major Porsche collector in September of 2017, this Speedster has spent most of its life being transportedto and from car shows with under 1k miles driven since the completion of the build. A truly exciting build, this one-of-a-kind Vintage Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by a clean Arizona title.
The fiberglass bodywork is finished in Midnight Blue and the paint is said to remain in fantastic shape.Additional images are provided in the photo gallery. Some noteworthy features of this Speedster include rare Super Wide fenders, dual aero side mirrors, teardrop taillights, rear Carrera script, mesh headlight covers, and custom-made 17” Fuchs-style polished wheels measuring 8” wide in the front and 10” wide in the rear. The retractable Camel soft top includes a full tonneau cover as well as matching side curtains. Custom “CruZin Windows” are also included which can be installed to reduce wind disturbance and provide a more comfortable top-down driving experience.
Inside, you will find a custom interior appointed with Allante Beechwood leatherette upholstery and blue carpeting.Other details include bucket seats with blue Porsche crested seatbelts, a short-throw shifter, Porsche dashboard script, a Nardi-style steering wheel, Porsche crested horn button, and Coco floormats. Also equipped is a modern Kenwood Bluetooth stereo which has been discreetly installed under the dashboard. All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional including the odometer which currently reads approximately 1600 kilometers or 995 miles.
Power comes from a 1915cc Type 1 VW engine with a Bergman 911 engine fan shroud, an MSD 6AL ignition controller, and dual 40mm IDF Weber carburetors.Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual 3:88 Freeway Flyer transmission.Other mechanical features include front disc brakes, a Vintage Speed stainless steel Sebring exhaust system, an electric fuel pump, a spin-off oil filter, an external oil cooler, and adjustable front and rear suspension.A preemptive oil change and tune-up have been carried out and this Speedster is said to be in excellent driving condition.
This sale will include a clean title for a 1967 Volkswagen.Especially sought-after as being one of the final examples built by the original Vintage Speedsters company, this custom Super Widebody replica is not to be overlooked.

@Vipmn The gas filler is in the trunk. It has a Black cap and you can see it in the upper left corner of the trunk pictures.

@robmsales The trunk as room for soft items, like a sleeping bag, jackets, shoes etc.. There is also quite a bit of space on the platform behind the seats. You can get a suitcase back there AND all of your wife's shoes! LOL
If that isn't enough, you can also put a luggage rack on the back deck.Flag as inappropriate Like(1) Reply

Hi Troy
I'm also looking for a picture of what you could put into the front trunk
Not a deal-breaker in any way- just would like to see what it can hold

@Wmkevin7 I'm 6' even and weigh 200lbs. You would fit fine. Also, the seats are adjustable forward and backward and I don't have them all the way back. Another simple modification that the really tall guys do is add a couple of washers under the front two seat bolts. That tilts the seat backward slightly giving you even more head room.
Thanks for the question.

@Vipmn Yes I have the clean title in hand. Most of the specifics are listed in the description, but if there is some other specific you would like to know, please ask. I do have the original build sheet and I will provide it to the buyer at the of the auction, but it has prior owner private information so I'm not going to post it in the auction.

Also specs and build sheets would be helpful.

@Wmkevin7 No, there is no rubbing with any turns. The "CruZin" windows which you see in the top down photos are inserts and do not roll down. They insert into grommets on the door topper exactly like the windows that are used when the top is up. They help to reduce wind and road noise, but mainly they look VERY cool!
Thanks for the question.Flag as inappropriate Like(1) Reply

Does it have any rubbing when you take sharp turns? Do those windows roll down?

@robmsales Actually, the car does have heat, but it was the first day of Spring and it was a beautiful day for a drive and we were dressed pretty warm and didn't really need it. Most people never put the tops up on these cars, but of course the top is there if you choose to use it and the heat obviously works much better if the top is up. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, I just could help but notice that you and your wife had hood sh*ts on, but didn't use those on your ride this morning- I sure the car doesn't have a heater and I from Sacramento CA- relocated to Minnesota in 1980 to help my family set up a UPS-Mail order Business, so I loved the weather out there and Fresno north is where to live in California
Great little speedster you have- I had three of the reals one back in the late sixties
Good Luck - you'll see me around on this one!Flag as inappropriate Like Reply

I've just uploaded a 19 minute foothill cruise video that my wife Sally and I took this morning, 3/20/21. This will give you a very good idea of how much fun owning and driving this car is. Here's the link and I'm sure the PcarMarket guys will also incorporate it into the auction along with the other videos. Hope you enjoy it. https://youtu.be/VSNNFII4yoU
