These 3-ingredient homemade Twix bites are made from vanilla wafers, Rolo candies, and melted chocolate! That’s right—I said Rolos! They are the perfect bite-sized treat and are easy to make! Homemade Twix Bites (Made with 3 Ingredients!)

I know what you’re thinking, “She’s saying TWIX bites, but they are made with Rolos. What the heck?” It’s true. These Twix bites are made with Rolo candies, but taste JUST LIKE TWIX candy bars! They are such a fun treat to make and I can see this being added to holiday treat platters right along-side their friend—pretzel Rolos. I was inspired by the ones made by Mama Bear’s Recipes and recreated them with a few tweaks!

Twix candy bars start with a cookie base, a caramel center, and are dipped in chocolate. These homemade Twix bites are made the same way, but use shortcut ingredients like vanilla wafers and Rolos.

Dipped in chocolate they look like fancy chocolate candies, but there’s nothing fancy about them. It only takes 3 ingredients to make these semi-homemade treats. One batch makes 36.

Homemade Twix Bites Ingredients

72 MINI Nilla Wafer cookies: you can use regular-sized cookies, but I think the mini ones are a better cookie-caramel ratio. The smaller size also makes them easier to dip and they are the perfect size to pop into your mouth.

1 (7.6-ounce) bag of Rolos: grab the unwrapped ones if you can. It’ll save you a step!

8 ounces chocolate chips or melting chocolate wafers: I used milk chocolate chips and added a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil to make it extra smooth for dipping.

How To Make Homemade Twix Bites

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

3-Ingredient Homemade Twix Bites (+ video) (5)

Place vanilla wafer cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Place 36 cookies onto the sheet.

Place a Rolo candy in the center of each one.

Heat in oven for 90 seconds.

Now hear me out, I know that 90 seconds sounds very specific, but trust me on this. I experimented with baking temps. 2-3 minutes is too long and the caramel will begin to ooze out of the cookie. 1 minute isn’t long enough to soften the Rolo. 90 seconds is just right to soften the chocolate slightly, but the caramel is still a little firm. We’re NOT squishing or completely flattening the Rolo, just adding a cookie on top and slightly pressing down.

Remove from the oven and place another cookie on top of each Rolo candy, pressing down slightly.

Chill the tray of cookies in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes, or until chocolate has set.

Melt chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. You can use melting chocolate wafers or chocolate chips. I used 8 ounces of chocolate chips and a teaspoon or two of coconut oil then microwaved it for 60 seconds and stirred it until everything was melted and smooth.

Dip cookie sandwiches into chocolate using a chocolate dipping tool or fork. Tap the tool or fork against the side of the bowl to allow the excess chocolate to drip off before transferring the cookie back to the baking sheet.

Refrigerate cookies until the chocolate has hardened.

(Note: the swirly design on the top of my Twix bites comes from using the dipping tool. If you use a fork the tops of yours will be smooth)

Store homemade Twix bites in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Prep Time: 10 minutes minutes

Cook Time: 1 minute minute

chill: 30 minutes minutes

Total Time: 41 minutes minutes

Servings: 36 pieces

Calories: 85kcal

Ingredients

  • 72 MINI Nilla Wafer cookies (can use regular sized as well)
  • 1 7-ounce bag of Rolos unwrapped
  • 8 ounces chocolate chips or melting chocolate wafers
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional to add with chocolate chips when melting)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

  • Place 36 mini Nilla wafer cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Place a Rolo candy in the center of each one.

  • Heat in oven for 90 seconds.

Note: DO NOT heat longer than 90 seconds. You want the Rolo only slightly soft. I've experimented with 3 minutes, 2 minutes and 1 minute. 90 seconds was the sweet spot.

  • Remove from the oven and place another cookie on top of each Rolo candy. We're NOT squishing or flattening the Rolo, just adding a cookie on top and slightly pressing down.

  • Immediately chill the tray of cookies in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes, or until chocolate has set.

  • Melt chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. You can use melting chocolate wafers or chocolate chips.

Note: if using chocolate chips you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil if you'd like to thin them out a little.

  • Dip cookie sandwiches into chocolate using a chocolate dipper tool or fork. Tap the tool or fork against the side of the bowl to allow the excess chocolate to drip off before transferring the cookie back to the baking sheet.

  • Refrigerate cookies until the chocolate has hardened.

Notes

Store homemade Twix bites in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Note: if using regular-sized Nilla wafers you may need a little more chocolate.

Could you use a different kind of oil instead of the coconut oil? This recipe sounds so easy and delicious,,Can’t wait to try it!
    Thank you

Hi Karen! You can just leave the coconut oil out if you’d like! The chocolate chips are usually smooth enough to dip on their own, or you can use chocolate melting wafers (candy melts).

I make cookie and candy treats for Christmas. Can I freeze these for around 3months? If I make them now they will be gone.

If using chocolate almond bark, is coconut oil still needed?

No, I just find it easier to use when melting down chocolate chips. You probably don’t need it with almond bark!

So easy and so yummy. I make all kinds of different treats from October to December. My friend sent me a video on how to make these, well I wanted to look at other recipes idk I guess just to see how other people are making them and I’m glad I did, the recommendation to only put them in over for 90 seconds really is crucial, it is perfect. Twix are my favorite so I’m hopping to not eat all of them because yess they really taste just like a Twix, the good thing is you don’t have to choose between the right one or left one hahaaa I hope someone gets it.
