How to stop iPad from charging past 80? ›

You can enable or disable this feature in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. With 80% Limit enabled, your iPad will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.

The rule of thumb is to not charge if your device is around 80%, You should aim to keep your device in the middle range of battery charge. Let it completely die every few charge cycles. But honestly, the "ideal battery life" directions are just not going to work for most users.
